Cagliari defeated Benevento 2-0 on Saturday at Stadio Ciro Vigorito. Both teams arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Benevento were looking to continue their good run after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Venezia away (2-0), the other to Frosinone at home (2-1). Cagliari were coming off the back of a 1-0 win against Modena. Benevento are now in 9th place on the table and have 7 points while Cagliari sit in 2nd with 10 points after 5 matches.

After a goalless first half, Cagliari were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, when Lapadula gave them the lead, at 54 minutes. However they weren’t finished yet and Zito Luvumbo made it 2-0 on the 83 minute mark to make it 2-0.

Substitutions for Benevento included Simy Nwankwo, Foulon, Schiattarella, Ciano and Letizia for La Gumina, Masciangelo, Ilias Koutsoupias, Acampora and Improta, respectively. Cagliari replaced Carboni, Deiola, Pavoletti, Zito Luvumbo and Dossena with Viola, Lapadula, Rog, Nandez and Mancosu.

The referee booked Karic, Masciangelo and Foulon from Benevento. Cagliari had the worst of it though, with Obert and Zappa seeing yellow, and Obert (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Benevento will next travel to Brecia Calcio, while Cagliari will face SSC Bari at home.
