UNAM 1 – Santos 5: Home side humiliated by travelling Estadio Olimpico Universitario

Santos Laguna’s 5-1 win over Pumas on Sunday, was hard fought at Estadio Olimpico Universitario. UNAM arrived at the match looking pick up points after losing their last match 3-2 to Atl. San Luis. Santos, on the other hand, were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-1 victory against León. Following today’s result, UNAM are currently 16th with 8 points from 10 matches, while Santos sit in 5th, with 16 points from 10.

Santos started strongly in the first half, when Harold Preciado opened the rout at the 29 minute mark. The momentum was now with Santos, who then scored again through a 2nd effort from Harold Preciado, 39 minutes in to establish a 2-0. Guerreros then netted again and increased their lead thanks to a penalty goal from Fernando Gorriaran just before halftime, which saw the first half end 3-0.

Santos fought back, with an early goal from Juan Brunetta in the 50th minute. Santos looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Leonardo Suarez at the 78 minute mark to establish a 5-0. In the end though, UNAM secured the points emphatically, with a goal from Juan Dinenno, at 79 minutes and saw the match end 5-1.

Substitutions for UNAM included Leonel Lopez, Gustavo Del Prete and Cesar Huerta for Carlos Gutierrez, Jorge Antonio Ruvalcaba Castro and Marco Garcia, repectively. Santos brought on Diego Medina, Leonardo Suarez, Javier Correa, Cecilio Dominguez and Aldo Lopez, to replace Jair Gonzalez, Juan Brunetta, Eduardo Aguirre, Harold Preciado and Fernando Gorriaran.

UNAM will next travel to Guadalajara, while Santos will face Atl. San Luis at home.
