Tigres UANL fell to an away defeat at the hands of América at Estadio Azteca on Sunday. AME were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches against Querétaro away and Cruz Azul at home, by 1-0 and 7-0 respectively. Tigres, meanwhile, had managed to pick up a point in their matchup with Pumas. AME and Tigres currently occupy 3rd and 5th spots in the table, with 22 points and 21 points respectively after 12 matches.

The Eagles started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with an early goal from Jonathan Rodriguez in the 1st minute. However, their lead was short-lived, as an equalizer from Andre Pierre Gignac on the 9 minute mark, brought Tigres level. However, AME found the back of the net following a Igor Lichnovsky goal just before half-time, finishing the first half 2-1. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the match ended 2-1.

Substitutions for AME included Nestor Araujo, Pedro Aquino, Henry Martin, Miguel Layun and Mauricio Reyes for Bruno Valdez, Richard Sanchez, Federico Vinas, Jonathan Rodriguez and Alex Zendejas, respectively. Tigres brought on Jesus Angulo, Samir, Juan Vigon and Raymundo Fulgencio, to replace Francisco Venegas, Diego Reyes, Rafael Carioca and Sebastian Cordova.

There were bookings for Alex Zendejas, Miguel Layun, Jonathan Rodriguez, Federico Vinas and Pedro Aquino from AME, and Igor Lichnovsky, Guido Pizarro, Juan Vigon and Francisco Venegas, for Tigres.

Tigres and AME will next play away to Atl. San Luis and Puebla respectively.
