LaLiga action on Sunday as Villarreal and Seville meet at Estadio de La Ceramica – 4:15pm GMT.

Seville, remain in contention for Champion’s League qualification, sitting in third place and four places above seventh placed Villarreal, going into the clash.

Villarreal have 52 points to their name, going into this tie

Another victory would be a terrific achievement, but that is what Unai Emery will be asking from his team, as they go into this game on the back of strong results after beating Alaves 2-1 and Valencia 2-0

Also, Villarreal keep finding ways to win, having secured 11 victories in their last 19 games is astonishing this season. With 52 points (14W, 10L and 10D), they are established in seventh position in the League having won 14 matches, drawn 10 meetings, and lost 10 fixtures.

Playing at home, Villarreal have won 10 fixtures, drawn five meetings, and lost two games.

A victory for Villarreal would put them on 55 points.

Good atacking and defensive team

It’s an easy statement to make, but to win you simply have to score more goals than your opponent. Villarreal have been consistently applying this principle, whilst remaining defensively solid as a unit this season, with 33 goals in their previous games. They have a good scoring average of 54 goals (50 from open play and four penalties). This is largely down to the efforts of their stand-out attackers – Arnaut Danjuma (5), Yeremi Pino (4), and Dani Parejo (2).

Villarreal are no strangers this season to illness and injury and Unai Emery is concerned that Sunday’s fixture could see him without four of his key players.

Seville arrive at this game, having secured 64 points so far this season

Seville’s next opponents will smell blood if they begin the next match with all guns blazing. Whilst it’s understandable that they may want to do this, after their recent 1-1 draw at Cádiz and previous loss to Levante, Los Nervionenses must get a positive result and keep defensively solid.

Also, Seville are quickly becoming the LaLiga’s draw specialists, having recorded eight in their last 14 fixtures. Their position is third in the League and they have 64 points, that is, 17W, 4L and 13D having won 17 games, drawn 13 meetings, and lost four matches.

Seville’s away record is remarkable and poses a significant threat to Villarreal. In the 17 games they’ve played on the road this season, they have so far won six games, drawn eight fixtures, and lost three meetings.

A win in this fixture, would take Seville’s points from 64 to 67, so far this season.

A solid defensive team

Seville’s defence has been rock solid so far, only conceding 28 goals in their previous fixtures. This has been an average season so far, in terms of performance and entertainment, even though they have delivered a decent rate of goals (50). This season, their stand-out attacking players have been Rafa Mir (3), Papu Gomez (3), and Jesus Corona (2).

Going into Sunday’s game, Julen Lopetegui without four of his players, due to illness or injury.
