Espanyol 0-1 Villarreal: Lecomte strike wins it for The Yellow Submarine

Villarreal beat Espanyol with a 1-0 victory on Wednesday at Rcde Stadium. Espanyol were aiming to improve their league standing following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid in their previous game. Villarreal had lost their previous match against Mallorca. Espanyol and Villarreal currently occupy 16th and 8th spots in the league, with 12 points and 21 points respectively after 14 matches.

After an uneventful first half, The Yellow Submarine continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Benjamin Lecomte, 64 minutes in, which sealed the victory for the visitors.

Substitutions for Espanyol included Edu Exposito, Aleix Vidal, Dani Gomez, Nicolas Melamed Ribaudo and Jose Carlos Lazo for Vinicius Souza, Martin Braithwaite, Javi Puado, Keidi Bare and Brian Olivan, respectively. Villarreal brought on Alex Baena, Francis Coquelin, Gerard Moreno, Juan Foyth and Manu Morlanes for Manu Trigueros, Etienne Capoue, Arnaut Danjuma, Kiko Femenia and Dani Parejo.

There were bookings for Nicolas Melamed Ribaudo from Espanyol, and Etienne Capoue, Yeremi Pino and Raul Albiol, for Villarreal.

Espanyol will next play Barcelona away, with Villarreal facing Valencia at home.
