Villarreal 1-2 Real: Sociedad keep top-five hopes alive with victory at Villarreal

Villarreal on home loss to Real Sociedad at the Estadio de la Ceramica on Sunday. Both Villarreal and Real arrived on the back of wins. Villarreal were looking to pick up points, following a 5-1 victory against Rayo Vallecano. Real, on the other hand, were coming off the back of a 3-0 win against Cádiz. As the table looks today, Villarreal are currently 7th with 56 points from 37 matches, while Real sit in 6th, with 62 points from 37.

Real continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Alexander Isak at the 56 minute mark. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Martin Zubimendi in the 73rd minute with a final score of 2-1.

For Villarreal, Nicolas Jackson, Paco Alcacer, Alfonso Pedraza, Manu Trigueros and Mario Gaspar, came on for Boulaye Dia, Samuel Chukwueze, Pervis Estupinan, Francis Coquelin and Raul Albiol. Real brought on Andoni Gorosabel, Rafinha, Jon Guridi and Portu, to replace Joseba Zaldua, Illarramendi, Alexander Sorloth and Alexander Isak.

There were bookings for Juan Foyth, Raul Albiol and Giovani Lo Celso from Villarreal, and Joseba Zaldua and Alexander Isak, for Real.

Villarreal will next travel to Barcelona, while Real will face Atletico Madrid at home.
