Villarreal 5 – Espanyol 1: Budgerigars ship 5 at the Estadio de la Ceramica

Villarreal eased past Espanyol in a 5-1 victory on Sunday at the Estadio de la Ceramica. Villarreal were looking to pick up points after winning last match while Espanyol secured a point against Seville in their previous match. As the table looks today, Villarreal and Espanyol currently occupy 5th and 14th spots in the league, with 42 points and 29 points respectively after 26 matches.

The Yellow Submarine didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, with Yeremi Pino opening the rout, at 14 minutes. Villarreal looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a effort from Yeremi Pino at the 20 minute mark to establish a 2-0. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a effort from Yeremi Pino just before half-time, which saw the first half end 3-0.

The Yellow Submarine started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with Yeremi Pino finding the net again at the 53 minute mark. However, Budgerigars weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Keidi Bare at the 65 minute mark. In the end though, Villarreal secured the points emphatically, with a goal from Boulaye Dia just before the final whistle and seeing the game end 5-1.

For Villarreal, Aissa Mandi, Vicente Iborra, Moi Gomez, Samuel Chukwueze and Boulaye Dia, came on for Pau Torres, Etienne Capoue, Giovani Lo Celso, Yeremi Pino and Arnaut Danjuma. Espanyol replaced Nany Dimata, Adri Embarba, Nicolas Melamed Ribaudo, Didac Vila and Wu Lei with Tonny Vilhena, Yangel Herrera, Javi Puado, Adria Pedrosa and Raul De Tomas.

There were bookings for Serge Aurier and Raul Albiol from Villarreal. For Espanyol, Adria Pedrosa saw yellow.

Villarreal will next travel to Osasuna, while Espanyol will face Getafe at home.
