Villarreal 4-0 Elche: The Yellow Submarine cruise past Ilicitano

Villarreal beat Elche with a 4-0 victory on Sunday at the Estadio de la Ceramica. Villarreal were aiming to improve their league standing following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Getafe in their previous game. Elche had lost their previous match against Real Sociedad. Villarreal are currently 3rd with 10 points from 4 matches, while Elche sit in 19th, with 1 point from 4.

Villarreal started the match strongly, when Gerard Moreno opened the rout, at 26 minutes. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a goal from Giovani Lo Celso, 36 minutes in and saw the first half out 2-0.

The Yellow Submarine once more applied the pressure in the second half and were rewarded, with a goal from Francis Coquelin, at 89 minutes. Villarreal then scored again and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Jose Luis Morales just before the full time to give a final score of 4-0.

Substitutions for Villarreal included Jose Luis Morales, Samuel Chukwueze, Alex Baena, Aissa Mandi and Francis Coquelin for Nicolas Jackson, Yeremi Pino, Gerard Moreno, Kiko Femenia and Giovani Lo Celso, respectively. Elche brought on Gerard Gumbau, Pere Milla, Roger Marti, Domingos Quina and Josan for Raúl Guti, Lucas Boye, Ezequiel Ponce, Alex Collado and Tete Morente.

There were bookings for Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal. For Elche, Raúl Guti, Pere Milla and Enzo Roco saw yellow.

Villarreal will next travel to Real Betis, while Elche will face Athletic Bilbao at home.
