Villarreal 2-1 Almería: The Yellow Submarine secure home win

Almería on away loss to Villarreal at Estadio de La Ceramica on Sunday. Villarreal were hoping to get something from this game after losing their last match 3-0 to Barcelona. Almería had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 3-2 victory against Girona. Villarreal are now in 7th place on the table and have 18 points while Almería sit in 14th with 10 points after 11 matches.

Almería started strongly in the first half, with a goal from Gonzalo Melero, 31 minutes in to see out the first half 1-0.

Villarreal continued to pile on the pressure in the second half and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Alex Baena, 56 minutes in. The Yellow Submarine then netted once more and turned the match thanks to a goal from Nicolas Jackson just before the full time to make it 2-1.

Substitutions for Villarreal included Kiko Femenia, Nicolas Jackson, Manu Trigueros, Arnaut Danjuma and Yeremi Pino for Aissa Mandi, Alberto Moreno, Samuel Chukwueze, Jose Luis Morales and Francis Coquelin, respectively. Almería brought on Adri Embarba, César De La Hoz, Arnau Puigmal, Lazaro and Largie Ramazani, to replace Leo Baptistao, Eguaras, Lucas Robertone, Gonzalo Melero and El Bilal Toure.

The referee booked Alberto Moreno, Alex Baena and Pau Torres from Villarreal and Alex Baena (2 yellow cards) and Manu Morlanes went off with a red card, while Almería’s Sergio Akieme also received a yellow.

Villarreal will next play Athletic Bilbao away, with Almería facing Celta Vigo at home.
