Valencia 2 – Celta 0: Visitors to the Mestalla leave with nothing

Valencia defeat Celta Vigo 2-0 on Saturday at the Mestalla. Valencia wanted to improve their league standing after a 1-1 draw against Espanyol. Celta had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 1-0 victory against Elche. This left, Valencia and Celta are 9th (48 points) and 11th (46 points) in the league respectively, after a total of 38 matches.

It was an impressive opening from The Bats, with a goal from Maxi Gomez in the 28th minute. They then managed to see out the first half 1-0.

Valencia continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Nestor Araujo in the 60th minute and seeing the game end 2-0.

For Valencia, Denis Cheryshev, Mario Dominguez Franco, Goncalo Guedes, Yunus Musah and Uros Racic, came on for Bryan Salvatierra, Thierry Correia, Marcos De Sousa, Maxi Gomez and Mouctar Diakhaby. Celta brought on Gabriel Veiga, Orbelin Pineda, Jeison Murillo and Jose Fontán, to replace Augusto Solari, Kevin Vazquez, Nolito and Brais Mendez.

There were bookings for Dimitri Foulquier and Thierry Correia from Valencia. For Celta, Javi Galan, Brais Mendez and Thiago Galhardo saw yellow.
