Valencia 0-1 Atletico Madrid: The Bats picked off by Los Colchoneros
Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 win over Valencia on Monday, was hard fought at the Mestalla. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Valencia were hoping to get something from this game, following a previous defeat to Athletic Bilbao. Atleti, on the other hand, lost 2-0 in the last match they played against Villarreal. As things stand, Valencia and Atleti currently occupy 14th and 7th spots in the table, with 3 points and 6 points respectively after 3 matches.
After an uneventful first half, Los Colchoneros continued to pile on the pressure in the second, when Antoine Griezmann found the net at the 66 minute mark, leaving the final score at 1-0.
Substitutions for Valencia included Nicolas Gonzalez, Maxi Gomez, Fran Perez and Diego Lopez Noguerol for Thierry Correia, Marcos De Sousa, Samu Castillejo and Lato Toni, repectively. Atleti brought on Yannick Carrasco, Thomas Lemar, Antoine Griezmann, Matheus Cunha and Angel Correa, to replace Saul Niguez, Rodrigo De Paul, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Joao Felix and Alvaro Morata.
There were bookings for Marcos De Sousa, Thierry Correia, Eray Comert and Fran Perez from Valencia. For Atleti, Saul Niguez, Reinildo Mandava and Joao Felix saw yellow.
Valencia will play their next fixture at home against Getafe, while Atleti will face Real Sociedad away.
