Sevilla 1-2 Real Sociedad: Real continue fine season with away win

Real Sociedad defeated Seville 2-1 on Wednesday at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were each keen to pick up points. Seville were aiming to improve their league standing following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Real Betis in their previous game. Real had secured a point against Valencia in their previous match. Seville are now in 17th place on the table and have 11 points while Real sit in 3rd with 26 points after 14 matches.

Real started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Alexander Sorloth gave them the lead, 20 minutes in. The White and Blues looked to have the match under control when they scored again to grab the advantage, thanks to a goal from Brais Mendez in the 36th minute to establish a 2-0. Los Nervionenses in turn, then responded just before half-time, grabbing the lead with an effort from Rafa Mir, finishing the first half 2-1. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the match ended 2-1.

Substitutions for Seville included Joan Jordan, Kike Salas, Thomas Delaney, Youssef En-Nesyri and Adnan Januzaj for Isco, Karim Rekik, Oliver Torres, Rafa Mir and Erik Lamela, respectively. Real brought on Take, Igor Zubeldia, Ander Guevara, Pablo Marin and Robert Navarro, to replace Carlos Fernandez, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, David Silva and Alex Sola.

The referee booked Jesus Navas and Oliver Torres from Seville and Ivan Rakitic and Nianzou Tanguy Kouassi went off with a red card, while Real’s Mikel Merino and Jon Pacheco also received a yellow.

Seville will next travel to Celta Vigo, while Real will face Osasuna at home.
