This Thursday sees Real go head to head with Barca at the Reale Arena – Kick-off 9:30pm GMT.

Champion’s League hopefuls Barca, travel to Real on Thursday, as second takes on sixth in the League.

Real Sociedad have 55 points to their name, going into this tie

Imanol Alguacil’s men were held to a disappointing draw against Real Betis in their last fixture, he will be keen to improve on that in this game.

Also, Real keep finding ways to win, having secured six victories in their last 10 games is astonishing this season. With 55 points, they currently sit sixth in the League. The breakdown for the team’s record is 15 wins, 7 losses and 10 draws having won 15 meetings, drawn 10 fixtures, and lost seven matches.

Real have won nine fixtures, drawn five fixtures, and lost two games of their 16 League matches at home this season.

A win in this fixture would take Real Sociedad’s points to 58 in the League.

A solid defensive team

It’s an easy statement to make, but to win you simply have to score more goals than your opponent. Real have been consistently applying this principle, whilst remaining defensively solid as a unit this season, with 30 goals in their previous games. This has been an average season so far, in terms of performance and entertainment, even though they have delivered a decent rate of goals (32). This has been largely down to the key attacking players: Mikel Oyarzabal (2), Martin Zubimendi (1), and Aritz Elustondo (1).

It is likely that five key players will miss Thursday’s fixture, which is something of a concern for Imanol Alguacil and his Real team.

Barcelona’s campaign so far has seen them accrue 60 points this season

Barca must take a positive approach to this game, if they are to get anything out of, following their recent defeat to Cádiz at the Nou Camp.

Also, Barca keep finding ways to win, having secured nine victories in their last 11 meetings is astonishing this season, a form has placed them in clear contention for Champion’s League qualification. With 60 points (17W, 5L and 9D), they are established in second position in the League having won 17 matches, drawn nine fixtures, and lost five matches.

Barca’s away record is remarkable and poses a significant threat to Real. In the 16 games they’ve played on the road this season, they have so far won seven games, drawn seven meetings, and lost two fixtures.

Barcelona will have 63 points so far this season, should they secure a win.

Good Attacking Performance

This has been a good season so far for Barca, in terms of goals scored (60). This has been largely down to the key attacking players: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (7), Pedri (4), and Ferran Torres (4). Barca have conceded 32 goals.

Barca’s ever growing list of players missing due to injury or illness to be a concern for Xavi, ahead of this Thursday’s fixture against their opponents.

August 2021 was the most recent time these two clashed in this competition and Barcelona took all three points winning 4-2.
