Betis 1-2 Atletico Madrid: Griezmann brace sees Atleti steal the show

Atletico Madrid beated Real Betis 2-1 on Sunday at the Estadio Benito Villamarin. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were each keen to pick up points. Betis were aiming to improve their league standing following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Cádiz in their previous game. Atleti had managed to pick up a point in their matchup with Rayo Vallecano. Betis are now in 5th place, with 20 points from 11 matches, while Atleti sit in 3rd, with 23 points from 11.

After an uneventful first half, whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Los Colchoneros who started the second half strongly, when Antoine Griezmann found the net in the 54th minute. Atleti looked to have the match under control when they scored again to grab the advantage, thanks to a 2nd effort from Antoine Griezmann, 71 minutes in to establish a 2-0. The Green-and-Whites in turn, then responded, at 84 minutes, grabbing the lead with an effort from Nabil Fekir, leaving the final score at 2-1.

Substitutions for Betis included Victor Ruiz, Joaquin, Joaquin, Nabil Fekir and Aitor Ruibal for Luiz Felipe, Rodri, Luiz Henrique, Andres Guardado and Youssouf Sabaly, respectively. Atleti replaced Matheus Cunha, Joao Felix, Yannick Carrasco and Rodrigo De Paul with Alvaro Morata, Angel Correa, Antoine Griezmann and Saul Niguez.

There were bookings for Guido Rodriguez and Rui Silva from Betis, and Nahuel Molina, Alvaro Morata and Geoffrey Kondogbia, for Atleti.

Next up, Betis are away to Real Sociedad, whilst Atleti will travel to face Cádiz.
