Real Betis beat Athletic Bilbao with a thumping 1-0 victory on Sunday at the Estadio Benito Villamarin. Betis arrived at the game looking pick up points after losing their last game 3-1 to Atletico Madrid. Athletic Bilbao were able to continue their winning streak after a 3-1 win against Levante in their last match. As the table looks today, Betis and Athletic Bilbao currently occupy 4th and 8th spots in the league, with 49 points and 40 points respectively after 28 matches.

The Green-and-Whites started the first half well, thanks to Borja Iglesias finding the net in the 20th minute to take them into the break 1-0 up. The second 45 minutes ended with little further action at either end and goalless.

For Betis, Aitor Ruibal, William Carvalho and Edgar Gonzalez, came on for Juan Miranda, Borja Iglesias and Paul Akouokou. Athletic Bilbao brought on Mikel Balenziaga, Nicholas Williams, Oier Zarraga, Raul Garcia and Nicolas Serrano, to replace Yuri Berchiche, Inaki Williams, Mikel Vesga, Oihan Sancet and Unai Vencedor.

The referee booked German Pezzella, Juan Miranda, Aitor Ruibal and Sergio Canales from Betis and Nabil Fekir went off with a red card, while Athletic Bilbao’s Yuri Berchiche, Alex Berenguer, Nicholas Williams, Oihan Sancet and Oscar De Marcos also received a yellow.

Betis will next play Celta Vigo away, with Athletic Bilbao facing Getafe at home.
