Rayo 2-4 Levante: Relegated Levante finish with a flourish with victory over Rayo Vallecano

Levante defeat Rayo Vallecano 4-2 on Friday at Estadio de Vallecas. Rayo arrived at the game looking pick up points after losing their last game 2-1 to Mallorca. Levante were coming off the back of a 3-1 win against Alaves. Following the final whistle at the end of the last game of the LaLiga season, Rayo are in 12th place on the table and has 42 points while Levante sit in 19th with 35 points after 38 matches.

vallecano found the net first, with Alvaro Garcia giving Rayo the lead at the 18 minute mark. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Gonzalo Melero managed to equalize and take the sides off, 26 minutes in at 1-1. The Frogs looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Roger Marti, 44 minutes in to establish a 2-1. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a second effort from Gonzalo Melero just before half-time. The score at half time was 1-3.

Rayo took the lead in the second half, thanks to a goal from Sergi Guardiola at the 61 minute mark. Levante in turn, then responded in the 76th minute increasing their lead with an effort from Coke. When the final wisthle blew, the result was 4-2 to Levante.

For Rayo, Pathe Ciss, Santi Comesana, Mamadou Sylla, Falcao and Alejandro Asensio, came on for Randy Nteka, Mario Suarez, Bebe, Sergi Guardiola and Kevin Rodrigues. Levante replaced Pepelu, Jorge Miramon, Marc Pubill Pages, Ruben Vezo and Omar Faraj with Gonzalo Melero, Marcelo Saracchi, Roger Marti, Coke and Alejandro Cantero.

The referee booked three players from Levante, Marcelo Saracchi, Sergio Postigo and Ruben Vezo.
