Atletico Madrid enjoyed a mesmerising away victory against Rayo at Estadio de Vallecas on Saturday. Rayo wanted to continue adding points after a 1-1 draw against Seville. Atleti were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Cádiz and Real Betis. Following today’s result, Rayo and Atleti currently occupy 13th and 3rd spots in the table, with 32 points and 54 points respectively after 29 matches.

After an un-eventful first half, Atleti certainly were out of the blocks quickly in the second half, thanks to an early goal from Koke in the 49th minute, which sealed the victory for the visitors.

For Rayo, Pathe Ciss, Isi Palazon, Randy Nteka and Mamadou Sylla, came on for Santi Comesana, Bebe, Sergi Guardiola and Oscar Trejo. Atleti brought on Geoffrey Kondogbia, Angel Correa, Luis Suarez, Felipe and Mario Hermoso, to replace Renan Lodi, Hector Herrera, Joao Felix, Antoine Griezmann and Koke.

The referee booked Mario Suarez, Santi Comesana and Oscar Trejo from Rayo. Atleti had the worst of it though, with Renan Lodi, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Koke, Jan Oblak and Stefan Savic seeing yellow, and Angel Correa then sent off with a red.

Rayo will play their next fixture away against Granada, while Atleti will face Alaves at home.
