R Madrid’s 4-1 win over Mallorca on Sunday, was hard fought at Santiago Bernabeu. RMA were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two games in the league. The most recent was against the Real Betis at home (2-1), the other to Espanyol away (3-1) while Mallorca had secured a point against Girona in their previous match. RMA are now in 1st place on the table and have 15 points while Mallorca sit in 13th with 5 points after 5 matches.

The Vermilions started strongly in the first half, when Vedat Muriqi found the net on the 35 minute mark. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Federico Valverde equalised for RMA just before half-time, concluding the first half 1-1.

Los Blancos continued to pile on the pressure in the second half and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Vinicius Junior on the 72 minute mark. The momentum was again with RMA, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Rodrygo in the 89th minute to establish a 3-1 result. However they weren’t finished yet and Antonio Rudiger made it 4-1 just before the final whistle to make it 4-1.

Substitutions for RMA included Luka Modric, Nacho, Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Carvajal for Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy, Dani Ceballos and Lucas Vazquez, respectively. Mallorca brought on Iddrisu Baba, Antonio Sanchez, Clement Grenier, Abdon and Lago Junior, to replace Rodrigo Battaglia, Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta, Dani Rodriguez, Vedat Muriqi and Kang In Lee.

There were bookings for Ferland Mendy, Federico Valverde and David Alaba from RMA, and Matija Nastasic, Pablo Maffeo, Raillo, Martin Valjent and Antonio Sanchez, for Mallorca.

RMA will next travel to Atletico Madrid, while Mallorca will face Almería at home.
