Osasuna 2-1 Rayo: Vallecano fall short in defeat by Los Rojillos

Osasuna’s 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday, was hard fought at the Estadio El Sadar. Both teams arrived at the match with previous defeats in the league. Osasuna arrived at the match looking to pick up more points, following defeat to Real Betis. Rayo lost 2-0 in their against Mallorca. Osasuna and Rayo currently occupy 4th and 13th spots in the table, with 9 points and 4 points respectively after 4 matches.

Following a goalless first half, whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Osasuna who started the second half strongly, with a goal from Aimar Oroz, 54 minutes in. However, their lead was short-lived, as an equalizer from Florian Lejeune on the 75 minute mark, brought Rayo level. In the end though, Los Rojillos took the victory thanks to a Ruben Garcia goal just before the final whistle. The final result, Osasuna 2, Rayo 1.

Substitutions for Osasuna included Darko Brasanac, Ruben Garcia, Pablo Ibanez, Kike Garcia and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli for Lucas Torro, Ezequiel Avila, Moi Gomez, Ante Budimir and Jon Moncayola, respectively. Rayo brought on Isi Palazon, Santi Comesana and Falcao, to replace Salvi Sanchez, Óscar Valentín and Sergio Camello.

There were bookings for Juan Cruz and Unai Garcia from Osasuna. For Rayo, Pathe Ciss and Alvaro Garcia saw yellow.

Osasuna will next travel to Almería, while Rayo will face Valencia at home.
