Mallorca 2-1 Rayo: The Vermilions bank vital three points in survival bid

Mallorca snatched all three points from Rayo Vallecano in a 2-1 victory on Sunday, at Estadi de Son Moix. Mallorca arrived with the intention of increasing their league score following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Seville in their previous game. Rayo lost 5-1 in the last match they played against Villarreal. As the table looks today, Mallorca are in 17th place, with 36 points from 37 matches, while Rayo sit in 12th, with 42 points from 37.

Mallorca started the first half well, with Vedat Muriqi giving Mallorca the lead at the 13 minute mark. They then managed to see out the first half 1-0.

Rayo took the initiative in the second half, thanks to Pathe Ciss finding the net at the 60 minute mark. The Vermilions in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with an effort from Abdon, leaving the final score at 2-1.

For Mallorca, Dani Rodriguez, Take, Abdon and Kang In Lee, came on for Antonio Sanchez, Jaume Costa, Angel Rodriguez and Salva Sevilla. Rayo brought on Sergi Guardiola, Bebe, Kevin Rodrigues, Mario Suarez and Mamadou Sylla, to replace Randy Nteka, Mario Hernandez, Pathe Ciss, Óscar Valentín and Falcao.

The referee booked Vedat Muriqi for Mallorca.

Mallorca will next play Osasuna away, with Rayo facing Levante at home.
