Espanyol 2-2 Elche: Plenty of goals but no winner at Rcde Stadium

On Sunday, Espanyol and Elche played out a 2-2 draw at Rcde Stadium. Both sides came from defeats in their previous league games. Espanyol were hoping to get something from this game after losing 1-0 to Osasuna in their last match, while Elche were beaten 3-0 in their previous match against R Madrid. Espanyol and Elche currently occupy 16th and 20th spots in the league, with 9 points and 3 points respectively after 11 matches.

Elche started the match strongly, when Pere Milla found the net, 11 minutes in. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Javi Puado equalised for Budgerigars, 24 minutes in, which brought Diego Martinez’s squad level at 1-1 at the half time break

Espanyol took the lead in the second half, when Martin Braithwaite found the net in the 67th minute. In the end though, their lead was short-lived, as Gonzalo Verdu equalised for ilicitano, at 82 minutes, leaving the final score at 2-2.

Substitutions for Espanyol included Aleix Vidal, Keidi Bare, Jose Carlos Lazo, Fernando Calero and Nicolas Melamed Ribaudo for Javi Puado, Edu Exposito, Martin Braithwaite, Oscar Regano and Sergi Darder, respectively. Elche replaced Helibelton Palacios, Alex Collado, Raúl Guti, Fidel and Lucas Boye for Josan, Fidel, Gerard Gumbau, Tete Morente and Roger Marti.

There were bookings for Vinicius Souza and Aleix Vidal from Espanyol, and Helibelton Palacios, Lucas Boye and Omar Mascarell, for Elche.

Espanyol will play away against Mallorca, while Elche will face Getafe at home.
