Elche 1-2 Girona: Visitors fight back from behind to secure three points

Girona beat Elche with a 2-1 victory on Tuesday at Estadio Martínez Valero. Elche were looking to get back to winning ways after losing their last match 2-1 to Real Valladolid. Girona were able to continue their winning streak after a 2-1 win against Athletic Bilbao in their last match. Elche and Girona currently occupy 20th and 13th spots in the table, with 4 points and 16 points respectively after 14 matches.

It was an impressive opening from ilicitano, with a goal from Pol Lirola, 16 minutes in. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Ivan Martin equalised for Girona in the 39th minute and saw the first half out 1-1.

Girona continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Valentin Castellanos found the net in the 66th minute. The match ended with a 2-1 victory for Girona.

Substitutions for Elche included Gerard Gumbau, Ezequiel Ponce, Roger Marti, Nicolas Ezequiel Fernandez Mercau and Pedro Bigas for Josan, Raúl Guti, Lucas Boye, Carlos Clerc and Enzo Roco, respectively. Girona brought on Ivan Martin, Cristhian Stuani, Rodrigo Riquelme, Bernardo Espinosa and Ramon Terrats, to replace Yangel Herrera, Valentin Castellanos, Toni Villa, Valery Fernandez and Aleix Garcia.

There were bookings for Josan, Gerard Gumbau and Diego Gonzalez from Elche. For Girona, Toni Villa and Cristhian Stuani saw yellow.

Elche will next travel to Atletico Madrid, while Girona will face Rayo Vallecano at home.
