Cádiz 2 – Athletic Bilbao 3: gaditano unable to stop visitors getting win

Athletic Bilbao snatched all three points from Cádiz in a 3-2 victory on Thursday, at Estadio Ramon de Carranza. Cádiz were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run, following a 1-0 victory against Barcelona. Athletic Bilbao had lost their previous match against Celta Vigo. As the table looks today, Cádiz are in 17th place on the table and has 31 points while Athletic Bilbao sit in 8th with 48 points after 33 matches.

The Lions dominated the first half, with an early goal from Raul Garcia in the 3rd minute. The momentum was now with Athletic Bilbao, who then scored again through a goal from Iker Muniain at the 22 minute mark to establish a 2-0. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Mikel Vesga, at 33 minutes, which saw the first half end 0-3.

gaditano took the lead in the second half, thanks to a goal from Lucas Perez, 56 minutes in. However they weren’t finished yet and Ruben Sobrino made it 3-2 just before the final whistle to make it 3-2.

For Cádiz, Jose Mari, Lucas Perez, Fali, Ruben Sobrino and Alex, came on for Carlos Akapo, Fede San Emeterio, Víctor Chust, Anthony Lozano and Ruben Alcaraz. Athletic Bilbao replaced Alex Petxa, Oier Zarraga, Unai Vencedor, Yeray Alvarez and Yuri Berchiche with Oscar De Marcos, Nicholas Williams, Dani Garcia, Raul Garcia and Iker Muniain.

The referee booked Anthony Lozano, Víctor Chust and Juan Cala from Cádiz. Athletic Bilbao had the worst of it though, with Inigo Martinez, Mikel Vesga, Dani Vivian and Unai Vencedor seeing yellow, and Mikel Vesga (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Cádiz will next travel to Seville, while Athletic Bilbao will face Atletico Madrid at home.
