Barca 0-2 Villarreal: Barca’s worst La Liga campaign in more than a decade ends in defeat

Villarreal secures a 2-0 victory against Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Sunday. Barca arrived with the intention of increasing their league score following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Getafe in their previous game. Villarreal, on the other hand, lost 2-1 in the last match they played against Real Sociedad. This left, Barca and Villarreal are 2nd (73 points) and 7th (59 points) in the table respectively, after a total of 38 matches.

Villarreal started well, thanks to Alfonso Pedraza giving Villarreal the lead just before half-time, finalising the first half 0-1.

The Yellow Submarine started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with a goal from Moi Gomez in the 55th minute, which sealed the victory for the visitors.

For Barca, Ansu Fati, Ousmane Dembele, Memphis Depay, Riqui Puig and Óscar Mingueza, came on for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Adama Traore, Ferran Torres, Gavi and Dani Alves. Villarreal brought on Nicolas Jackson, Pervis Estupinan, Serge Aurier, Ruben Pena and Samuel Chukwueze, to replace Mario Gaspar, Paco Alcacer, Manu Trigueros, Alfonso Pedraza and Moi Gomez.

There were bookings for Gavi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba from Barca, and Dani Parejo, for Villarreal.
