Barcelona 2-0 Almería: Pique ends career with Los Blaugranas victory
Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Almería on Saturday, was hard fought at the Nou Camp. Both sides arrived on the back of wins. Barca were keen to hang onto their position at the top of the table and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches against Valencia away and Athletic Bilbao at home, by 1-0 and 4-0 respectively. Almería were looking to extend their winning run after a 3-1 victory against Celta Vigo. Barca are now in 1st place on the table and have 34 points while Almería sit in 15th with 13 points after 13 matches.
After an uneventful first half, whatever was said in the dressing room at half time, seemed to have a positive effect on Los Blaugranas who started the second half strongly, with an early goal from Ousmane Dembele in the 48th minute. Barca then netted again and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Frenkie De Jong, 62 minutes in to make it 2-0.
Substitutions for Barca included Ansu Fati, Raphinha, Gavi and Andreas Christensen for Ferran Torres, Ousmane Dembele, Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique, respectively. Almería brought on Dyego Sousa, Srdjan Babic, Eguaras, Arnau Puigmal and Francisco Portillo, to replace Leo Baptistao, Kaiky Melo, Rodrigo Ely, Gonzalo Melero and Lucas Robertone.
There were bookings for Ferran Torres and Ousmane Dembele from Barca, and Kaiky Melo, for Almería.
Barca will next travel to Osasuna, while Almería will face Getafe at home.
