Athletic Bilbao 3 – Levante 1: The Lions jubilant after home win against The Frogs

On Monday, Levante suffer an away defeat to Athletic Bilbao at San Mames Stadium. Athletic Bilbao were hoping to get something from this game, following a previous defeat to Barcelona. Levante, on the other hand, had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 3-0 victory against Elche. As it stands, Athletic Bilbao are in 8th place on the table and has 40 points while Levante sit in 20th with 18 points after 27 matches.
Following a goalless first half, Athletic Bilbao piled on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Mikel Vesga giving The Lions the lead, 63 minutes in. The Lions looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Inaki Williams, 76 minutes in to establish a 2-0. The momentum was now with Athletic Bilbao, who then scored again through a goal from Oier Zarraga in the 88th minute to establish a 3-0. In the end though, The Frogs just before the final whistle pull-back via a Jorge De Frutos Sebastian goal and seeing the game end 3-1.
For Athletic Bilbao, Dani Vivian, Nicholas Williams, Oier Zarraga, Alex Petxa and Asier Villalibre, came on for Inigo Martinez, Iker Muniain, Oihan Sancet, Unai Vencedor and Inaki Williams. Levante brought on Enis Bardhi, Alejandro Cantero, Mickael Malsa, Dani Gomez and Enric Franquesa, to replace Jose Luis Morales, Martin Caceres, Gonzalo Melero, Roger Marti and Son.
There were bookings for Alex Berenguer from Athletic Bilbao. For Levante, Jorge Miramon and Son saw yellow.
Athletic Bilbao will next travel to Real Betis, while Levante will face Espanyol at home.
