Athletic Bilbao 1 – Getafe 1: Victory elusive at San Mames Stadium for both sides

Athletic Bilbao were held to 1-1 draw by Getafe down on Friday at San Mames Stadium. Athletic Bilbao were looking to get back their winning ways after losing their last game 1-0 to Real Betis. Getafe are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. After today’s result, Athletic Bilbao are currently 8th with 41 points from 29 matches, while Getafe sit in 15th, with 29 points from 29.
It was an impressive opening from Getafe, with an early goal from Enes Unal in the 3rd minute. However, their lead was short lived, as Yuri Berchiche equalised for Athletic Bilbao, 29 minutes in, to take a 1-1 lead into half time. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the game ended 1-1.
For Athletic Bilbao, Nicholas Williams, Asier Villalibre, Raul Garcia, Alex Petxa and Nicolas Serrano, came on for Unai Vencedor, Inaki Williams, Oihan Sancet, Oscar De Marcos and Iker Muniain. Getafe brought on Borja Mayoral, Okay Yokuslu, Juan Iglesias and Jaime Mata for Sandro Ramirez, Oscar, Carles Alena and Enes Unal.
The referee booked Mikel Vesga, Oscar De Marcos, Alex Petxa and Yeray Alvarez from Athletic Bilbao. Getafe had the worst of it though, with Stefan Mitrovic, Enes Unal, Djene, Jaime Mata and Damian Suarez seeing yellow, and Jorge Cuenca and Jakub Jankto then sent off with a red.
Athletic Bilbao next face Elche and Getafe are at home to Mallorca.
