Almería 3-1 Rayo: Host snap losing streak by sinking Rayo

Rayo Vallecano fell to an away defeat at the hands of Almería at Estadio Del Mediterráneo on Saturday. Almería were looking forward to playing again after losing their last match 4-0 to Athletic Bilbao. Rayo were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-1 victory against Elche. Almería and Rayo sit 18th, (4 points) and 10th, (10 points), in the table respectively, after 8 matches.

Almería dominated the first half, when Lucas Robertone found the net in the 8th minute. Almería looked to have the match under control when they scored again to grab the advantage, thanks to a goal from Srdjan Babic in the 17th minute to establish a 2-0. Almería then netted once more and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from El Bilal Toure on the 39 minute mark, finishing the first half 3-0.

vallecano took the initiative in the second half, when Alejandro Catena found the net, 81 minutes in, leaving the final score at 3-1.

Substitutions for Almería included Samu, Pozo, Eguaras, Largie Ramazani and Kaiky Melo for Leo Baptistao, Gonzalo Melero, El Bilal Toure, Lucas Robertone and Houboulang Mendes, respectively. Rayo brought on Falcao, Óscar Valentín, Santi Comesana, Bebe and Randy Nteka, to replace Salvi Sanchez, Florian Lejeune, Pathe Ciss, Oscar Trejo and Isi Palazon.

The referee booked Samu, Adri Embarba and Largie Ramazani from Almería and Adri Embarba (2 yellow cards) went off with a red card, while Rayo’s Salvi Sanchez and Óscar Valentín also received a yellow.

Almería will play their next fixture away against Real Betis, while Rayo will face Getafe at home.
