Tottenham 2-0 Marseille 0: Richarlison fires the Lilywhites to success

Tottenham Hotspur’s Antonio Conte gets winning start at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Today’s result, Spurs and Marseille currently occupy 2nd and 3rd spots in the league, with 3 points and 0 points respectively after 1 match.

After an uneventful first half, Spurs piled on the pressure in the second, when Richarlison found the net in the 76th minute. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a second effort from Richarlison, 81 minutes in to make it 2-0.

Substitutions for Spurs included Dejan Kulusevski, Ben Davies, Japhet Tanganga, Yves Bissouma and Matt Doherty for Emerson, Clement Lenglet, Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur and Heung Min Son, respectively. Marseille brought on Leonardo Balerdi, Sead Kolasinac, Amine Harit, Pape Alassane Gueye and Cengiz Under, to replace Gerson, Jonathan Clauss, Luis Suarez, Jordan Veretout and Samuel Gigot.

The referee booked Eric Dier and Heung Min Son from Spurs. Marseille had the worst of it though, with Eric Bailly and Jonathan Clauss seeing yellow, and Chancel Mbemba then sent off with a red.

In the second round of action in the Champions League Spurs will travel to play Sporting CP and Marseille will play Eintracht Frankfurt at home.
