Shakhtar Donetsk 1-1 Celtic: Celtic fail to press home early advantage

Shakhtar were helde ach other to a 1-1 draw by Celtic on Wednesday at Municipal Stadium of Marshal Jozef Pilsudski. Shakhtar were looking to continue their good run after winning last match, while Celtic had lost their previous match against R Madrid. Shakhtar are now in 1st place on the table and have 4 points while Celtic sit in 3rd with 1 point after 2 matches.

Celtic started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Artem Bondarenko gave them the lead on the 10 minute mark. However, their lead was short-lived, as Mykhailo Mudryk equalised for Shakhtar in the 29th minute to see out the first half 1-1. The second 45 minutes ended with little further action at either end and goalless.

Substitutions for Shakhtar included Lassina Franck Traore, Ivan Petryak, Neven Djurasek and Oleh Ocheretko for Oleksandr Zubkov, Maryan Shved, Artem Bondarenko and Georgiy Sudakov, respectively. Celtic replaced Sead Haksabanovic, Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate, Kyogo Furuhashi and Jota for Daizen Maeda, Aaron Mooy, David Turnbull, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Liel Abada.

The referee booked one player from Celtic, Moritz Jenz.

Next up, Shakhtar are away to R Madrid, whilst Celtic will travel to face RB Leipzig.
