Leipzig 3 – RMA 2: The Red Bulls see visitors off at Red Bull Arena

Leipzig enjoyed a home victory against R Madrid at Red Bull Arena on Tuesday. Leipzig were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches against Celtic away and Celtic at home, by 2-0 and 3-1 respectively. RMA had secured a point against Shakhtar Donetsk in their previous match. Leipzig are currently 2nd with 9 points from 5 matches, while RMA sit in 1st, with 10 points from 5.

Leipzig dominated the first half, when Josko Gvardiol found the net in the 13th minute. The momentum was again with Leipzig, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Christopher Nkunku on the 18 minute mark to establish a 2-0 result. Los Blancos in turn, then responded just before half-time, grabbing the lead with an effort from Vinicius Junior and the first half ended 2-1.

The Red Bulls continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Timo Werner found the net, at 81 minutes. RMA in turn, then responded just before the full time, grabbing the lead with an effort from Rodrygo, leaving the final score at 3-2.

Substitutions for Leipzig included Timo Werner, Dani Olmo, Abdou Diallo, Kevin Kampl and Benjamin Henrichs for Andre Silva, Emil Forsberg, David Raum, Amadou Haidara and Mohamed Simakan, respectively. RMA brought on Dani Carvajal, David Alaba and Eden Hazard, to replace Lucas Vazquez, Nacho and Toni Kroos.

The referee booked Lucas Vazquez for RMA.

Leipzig will next play Shakhtar Donetsk away, with RMA facing Celtic at home.
