Real Madrid 2-1 Shakhtar: Los Blancos do the business at the Bernabeu

Shakhtar Donetsk fell to an away defeat at the hands of R Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday. RMA were looking to continue their good run after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the RB Leipzig at home (2-0), the other to Celtic away (3-0). Shakhtar had managed to pick up a point in their matchup with Celtic. RMA and Shakhtar sit 1st, (9 points) and 2nd, (4 points), in the table respectively, after 3 matches.

Los Blancos dominated the first half, with a goal from Rodrygo in the 13th minute. The momentum was again with RMA, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Vinicius Junior on the 28 minute mark to establish a 2-0 result. However, Shakhtar pull-back, at 39 minutes, with a goal from Oleksandr Zubkov to see out the first half 2-1. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 2-1.

As for substitutions, for RMA, Eduardo Camavinga and Marco Asensio, came on for Aurelien Tchouameni and Rodrygo, Shakhtar replaced Ivan Petryak, Danylo Sikan, Neven Djurasek and Lassina Franck Traore with Maryan Shved, Oleksandr Zubkov, Georgiy Sudakov and Taras Stepanenko.

The referee booked two players from Shakhtar, Valerii Bondar and Mykhailo Mudryk.

RMA will next travel to Shakhtar Donetsk, while Shakhtar will face R Madrid at home.
