Marseille enjoyed a home victory against Sporting CP at Orange Velodrome on Tuesday. Marseille arrived at the match looking to pick up more points after losing their last match 1-0 to Eintracht Frankfurt while Sporting were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Tottenham Hotspur and Eintracht Frankfurt. Marseille are currently 4th with 0 points from 3 matches, while Sporting sit in 1st, with 6 points from 3.

The first half of the match started well for Sporting, with an early goal from Trincao in the 1st minute. However, their lead was short-lived, as an equalizer from Alexis Sanchez in the 13th minute, brought The Phocaeans level. The momentum was again with Marseille, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Amine Harit, 16 minutes in to establish a 2-1 result. Marseille then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Leonardo Balerdi, at 28 minutes to see out the first half 3-1.

The Phocaeans continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Chancel Mbemba found the net in the 84th minute, which sealed the victory for Marseille.

Substitutions for Marseille included Issa Kabore, Valentin Rongier, Pape Alassane Gueye, Samuel Gigot and Gerson for Jonathan Clauss, Jordan Veretout, Cengiz Under, Eric Bailly and Amine Harit, respectively. Sporting brought on Franco Israel, Jose Martinez, Paulinho, Sotirios Alexandropoulos and Flavio Nazinho for Marcus Edwards, Juste, Nuno Santos, Pedro Goncalves and Manuel Ugarte.

The referee booked Jordan Veretout from Marseille. Sporting had the worst of it though, with Juste, Nuno Santos and Ricardo Esgaio seeing yellow, and Antonio Adan then sent off with a red.
