Lille 1 – Chelsea 2: Home loss for Lille in return leg fixture, Chelsea go through to next round

Chelsea is done with square the quarterfinals after beat this Wednesday at the Stade Pierre Mauroy to the Lille by a score of 2-1. In the second leg, the game finished 2-1 to The Pensioners, which followed the first leg 2-0 win at London, who had already recorded a 2-0 home win in the first match. Thanks to the success achieved in this phase, Chelsea ensure their stay in the Champions League for at least the next round, the quarterfinals.
Lille dominated the first half, with a goal from Burak Yilmaz, 38 minutes in. However, their lead was short lived, as Christian Pulisic equalised for The Blues just before half-time, to take a 1-1 lead into half time.
Chelsea continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Cesar Azpilicueta, at 71 minutes and seeing the game end 2-1.
For Lille, Amadou Mvom Onana, Tim Weah, Hatem Ben Arfa, Domagoj Bradaric and Angel Gomes, came on for Botman Sven, Zeki Celik, Jonathan David, Gabriel Gudmundsson and Jonathan Bamba. Chelsea brought on Trevoh Chalobah, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Romelu Lukaku and Hakim Ziyech, to replace Andreas Christensen, Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz.
There were bookings for Gabriel Gudmundsson and Jose Fonte from Lille. For Chelsea, Trevoh Chalobah saw yellow.
The Blues will be pleased to have advanced to the next stage on the back of two good results, whilst Lille will now have to wait until next season to mount another challenge in the competition.
