FC Salzburg draw 1-1 with Bayern Munich – Its all down to the return leg

The opening leg between Salzburg and Bayern this Wednesday resulted in a 1-1 draw at Red Bull Arena. The hosts started the game having secured 2nd place in the group, with 10 points while, for their part, The FCB took control of Group E with a total of 18 points. This result will diss-point the home team more, as Matthias Jaissle’s men must know get a win, away from home, in the play-off of the Champions League.

Salzburg started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, with Chukwubuike Adamu giving Salzburg the lead at the 21 minute mark. They then managed to see out the first half 1-0.

The Reds took the initiative in the second half, thanks to a goal from Kingsley Coman just before the final whistle and seeing the game end 1-1.

For Salzburg, Chukwubuike Adamu, Luka Sucic and Maurits Kjaergaard, came on for Noah Okafor, Nicolas Seiwald and Karim Adeyemi. Bayern brought on Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Marcel Sabitzer, to replace Serge Gnabry and Corentin Tolisso.

There were bookings for Philipp Kohn from Salzburg. For Bayern, Kingsley Coman and Marcel Sabitzer saw yellow.

This will be a very well received result for, on the back of a dismal draw in the first leg. It sets the stage for them well as they now move forward to the next stage of the Champions League.
