Brugge 2-0 Atletico Madrid: Atleti upset in Belgium

Club Brugge banked all three points against the Atletico Madrid in a 2-0 victory on Tuesday, at the Jan Breydel Stadium. Brugge were looking to continue their good run after winning their previous two matches in the league. The most recent was against the Porto away (4-0), the other to Bayer Leverkusen at home (1-0), while Atleti had lost their previous match against Bayer Leverkusen. Brugge are now in 1st place, with 9 points from 3 matches, while Atleti sit in 4th, with 3 points from 3.

It was an impressive opening from Brugge, thanks to a goal from Kamal Sowah, 36 minutes in, and they saw out the first half 1-0.

Brugge continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, with a goal from Ferran Jutgla on the 62 minute mark. When the final whistle blew, the result was 2-0 to Brugge.

Substitutions for Brugge included Eduard Sobol, Eder Balanta, Antonio Eromonsele Nordby Nusa and Jorne Spileers for Bjorn Meijer, Tajon Buchanan, Ferran Jutgla and Abakar Sylla, respectively. Atleti brought on Angel Correa, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Matheus Cunha and Joao Felix, to replace Marcos Llorente, Jose Gimenez, Alvaro Morata and Yannick Carrasco.

There were bookings for Denis Odoi, Raphael Onyedika, Tajon Buchanan, Simon Mignolet and Abakar Sylla from Brugge, and Reinildo Mandava and Stefan Savic, for Atleti.

Brugge will next travel to Atletico Madrid, while Atleti will face Club Brugge at home.
