Benfica 1-1 PSG: Paris miss out on win depsite great Messi strike

On Wednesday, Benfica and PSG played out a 1-1 draw at Estadio Do Sport Lisboa E Benfica. Both Benfica and PSG arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Benfica were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two games against Juventus away and Maccabi Haifa FC at home, by 2-1 and 2-0 respectively. PSG were coming from consecutive wins against Maccabi Haifa FC and Juventus. both teams are now on 7 points and occupy 2nd and 1st places after 3 matches.

PSG started the first half well, when Lionel Messi found the net, at 22 minutes. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Danilo Pereira equalised for Benfica just before half-time, to take a 1-1 lead into half time. Both teams struggled to produce anything meaningful in the second half, leaving the final score at 1-1.

Both coaches used all available substitutions. Substitutions for Benfica included Julian Draxler, Fredrik Aursnes and Rodrigo Pinho for Goncalo Ramos, Enzo Fernandez and David Neres, respectively, PSG brought on Juan Bernat, Pablo Sarabia and Fabian Ruiz, to replace Nuno Mendes, Lionel Messi and Vitinha.

There were bookings for Enzo Fernandez and Goncalo Ramos from Benfica. For PSG, Fabian Ruiz, Neymar and Marco Verratti saw yellow.

Benfica will next travel to Paris Saint-Germain, while PSG will face Benfica at home.
