Bayer enjoyed a home victory against Atletico Madrid at Bayarena on Tuesday. Bayer arrived at the match looking to pick up more points after losing 1-0 to Club Brugge in their previous fixture. Atleti had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 2-1 victory against Porto. both teams are now on 3 points and sit in 2nd and 3rd places respectively after 2 matches.

Following a goalless first half, The Company’s Eleven applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, when Robert Andrich gave them the lead in the 84th minute. Bayer then scored once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Moussa Diaby just before the final whistle to make it 2-0.

Substitutions for Bayer included Jeremie Frimpong, Sardar Azmoun, Charles Aranguiz, Mitchel Bakker and Nadiem Amiri for Adam Hlozek, Moussa Diaby, Patrik Schick, Edmond Tapsoba and Callum Hudson-Odoi, respectively. Atleti brought on Rodrigo De Paul, Yannick Carrasco, Antoine Griezmann, Angel Correa and Matheus Cunha, to replace Saul Niguez, Reinildo Mandava, Nahuel Molina, Joao Felix and Alvaro Morata.

The referee booked Odilon Kossounou, Jonathan Tah and Robert Andrich for Bayer.

Atleti and Bayer will next play away to Club Brugge and Porto respectively.
