Ajax 1-6 Napoli: In-form Italians run rampant in Amsterdam

Napoli on a 6-1 win against Ajax on Tuesday at the Johan Cruyff Arena. Ajax were looking to get back to winning ways after losing their last match 2-1 to Liverpool. Napoli were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Rangers and Liverpool. Ajax and Napoli currently occupy 3rd and 1st spots in the table, with 3 points and 9 points respectively after 3 matches.

Ajax started the match strongly, when Mohammed Kudus found the net in the 9th minute. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Giacomo Raspadori producing an equaliser on the 18 minute mark, bringing Napoli level. The momentum was again with Gli Azzurri, who then scored again courtesy of a goal from Giovanni Di Lorenzo, at 33 minutes to establish a 2-1 result. Napoli looked to have the match under control when they scored again to grab the advantage, thanks to a goal from Piotr Zielinski in the 45th minute to establish a 3-1. They then scored again, pulling level thanks to a 2nd effort from Giacomo Raspadori just before half-time, concluding the first half 4-1.

Napoli continued to apply pressure in the second period and were rewarded, with a goal from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the 63rd minute. Gli Azzurri then netted once more and increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Giovanni Simeone in the 81st minute to give a final score of 6-1.

Substitutions for Ajax included Brian Brobbey, Davy Klaassen, Florian Grillitsch and Youri Baas for Steven Berghuis, Kenneth Taylor, Jurrien Timber and Devyne Rensch, respectively. Napoli brought on Tanguy Ndombele, Giovanni Simeone, Eljif Elmas, Gianluca Gaetano and Alessandro Zanoli, to replace Piotr Zielinski, Giacomo Raspadori, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Stanislav Lobotka and Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

The referee booked five players. Jurrien Timber, Dusan Tadic and Mohammed Kudus from Ajax, who saw yellow cards and Dusan Tadic (2 yellow cards), sent off with a red, as well as for Napoli Giacomo Raspadori received yellows.

Ajax will next travel to Napoli, while Napoli will face Ajax at home.
