Werder 2-2 Stuttgart: The River Islanders frustrated as The Reds take a point

On Saturday, Werder and Stuttgart were held to a 2-2 draw at Weserstadion. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Werder arrived with the intention of increasing their league score after a 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg while Stuttgart are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. As things stand, both teams are on 1 point and occupy 11th and 12th places respectively after 2 matches.

It was an impressive opening from Werder, with an early goal from Niclas Fullkrug in the 4th minute. However, their lead was short lived, as Wataru Endo equalised for The Reds in the 38th minute, concluding the first half 1-1.

Stuttgart took the lead in the second half, when Silas Wamangituka found the net at the 77 minute mark. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Oliver Burke equalised for The River Islanders just before the final whistle, leaving the final score at 2-2.

Substitutions for Werder included Niklas Stark, Romano Schmid, Nicolai Rapp, Oliver Burke and Lee Buchanan for Amos Pieper, Jens Stage, Ilia Gruev, Leonardo Bittencourt and Anthony Jung, repectively. Stuttgart brought on Borna Sosa, Pascal Stenzel, Lilian Egloff, Luca Pfeiffer and Atakan Karazor, to replace Tiago Tomas, Josha Vagnoman, Chris Fuhrich, Sasa Kalajdzic and Silas Wamangituka.

There were bookings for Marco Friedl, Leonardo Bittencourt, Niklas Stark and Marvin Ducksch from Werder, and Sasa Kalajdzic and Hiroki Ito, for Stuttgart.

Werder will play away against Borussia Dortmund, while Stuttgart will face SC Freiburg at home.
