Werder Bremen 0-2 Mainz: Visitors at Weserstadion secure victory

Werder were defeated at home by Mainz at Weserstadion on Saturday. Werder were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches against Hoffenheim away and B Mönchengladbach at home, by 2-1 and 5-1 respectively. Mainz were struggling for form following a draw in their last match. Werder are now in 8th place, with 15 points from 10 matches, while Mainz sit in 12th, with 12 points from 10.

The 05ers started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Marcus Ingvartsen gave them the lead in the 36th minute, saw the first half 1-0.

Mainz continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Lee Jae Sung found the net on the 66 minute mark, which sealed the victory for the visitors.

Substitutions for Werder included Niklas Schmidt, Oliver Burke, Jens Stage and Lee Buchanan for Ilia Gruev, Romano Schmid, Christian Gross and Anthony Jung, respectively. Mainz brought on Jonathan Michael Burkardt, Anthony Caci, Angelo Fulgini, Aymen Barkok and Niklas Tauer, to replace Marcus Ingvartsen, Dominik Kohr, Lee Jae Sung, Leandro Martins and Edimilson Fernandes.

There were bookings for Niclas Fullkrug from Werder, and Alexander Hack and Jonathan Michael Burkardt, for Mainz.

Werder will next play SC Freiburg away, with Mainz facing FC Köln at home.
