Union Berlin 2-1 Leipzig: The Iron Ones continue bright start with victory over Leipzig

Union Berlin strolled past RB Leipzig with a 2-1 win on Saturday at the An der Alten Försterei Stadium. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Union Berlin wanted to continue adding points following a 0-0 draw with Mainz in their previous game. Leipzig had managed to pick up a single point in their matchup with FC Köln. As it stands, Union Berlin are in 2nd place, with 7 points from 3 matches, while Leipzig sit in 11th, with 2 points from 3.

Union Berlin started strongly in the first half, when Jordan Siebatcheu found the net at the 32 minute mark. However they weren’t finished yet and Sheraldo Becker made it 2-0 at the 38 minute mark, finishing the first half 2-0.

The Red Bulls took the lead in the second half, when Willi Orban found the net, at 83 minutes and saw the match end 2-1.

Substitutions for Union Berlin included Kevin Behrens, Genki Haraguchi, Sven Michel, Morten Thorsby and Niko Giesselmann for Jordan Siebatcheu, Andras Schafer, Sheraldo Becker, Janik Haberer and Julian Ryerson, repectively. Leipzig brought on Marcel Halstenberg, Amadou Haidara, Andre Silva and Emil Forsberg, to replace Josko Gvardiol, Kevin Kampl, Konrad Laimer and Dani Olmo.

There were bookings for Frederik Ronnow and Kevin Behrens from Union Berlin, and Kevin Kampl, for Leipzig.

Union Berlin will next travel to Schalke, while Leipzig will face Wolfsburg at home.
