Union Berlin 3-1 Hertha: Union dominate Berlin derby match in Bundesliga opener

Union Berlin made a fine start in the new Bundesliga season with victory against Hertha. Today’s result, Union Berlin are currently 4th with 3 points from 1 match, while Hertha sit in 15th, with 0 points from 1.

The Iron Ones started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, when Jordan Siebatcheu found the net at the 31 minute mark and saw the first half out 1-0.

Union Berlin started the second half with renewed vigour, with an early goal from Sheraldo Becker in the 50th minute. The momentum was now with Union Berlin, who then scored again through a goal from Robin Knoche at the 54 minute mark to establish a 3-0. In the end though, The Old Lady pull-back just before the final whistle, with a goal from Dodi Lukebakio and saw the match end 3-1.

Substitutions for Union Berlin included Niko Giesselmann, Andras Schafer, Jamie Leweling, Kevin Behrens and Milos Pantovic for Julian Ryerson, Janik Haberer, Sheraldo Becker, Jordan Siebatcheu and Genki Haraguchi, repectively. Hertha replaced Myziane Maolida, Davie Selke, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Ivan Sunjic for Stevan Jovetic, Wilfried Kanga, Chidera Ejuke and Vladimir Darida.

There were bookings for Robin Knoche and Jamie Leweling from Union Berlin. For Hertha, Filip Uremovic, Ivan Sunjic and Dodi Lukebakio saw yellow.

In the second round of action in the Bundesliga Union Berlin will play against Mainz away and Hertha will play against Eintracht Frankfurt at home.
