Schalke 0-2 Freiburg: Breisgau Brazilians ease past The Royal Blues

Schalke fell to a home defeat at the hands of SC Freiburg at Veltins-Arena on Sunday. Schalke were looking to get back to winning ways after losing their last match 2-1 to Hertha whilst Freiburg were coming off the back of a 2-0 win against Werder Bremen. Schalke are now in 18th place, with 6 points from 12 matches, while Freiburg sit in 3rd, with 24 points from 12.

Freiburg started the first half well, thanks to a goal from Vincenzo Grifo just before half-time and managed to see out the first half 1-0.

Breisgau Brazilians continued to pile on the pressure in the second period and were rewarded, when Vincenzo Grifo found the net once more, 61 minutes in. The match ended with a 2-0 victory for the visitors.

Substitutions for Schalke included Kerim Calhanoglu, Tobias Mohr, Simon Terodde and Danny Latza for Thomas Ouwejan, Kenan Karaman, Sebastian Polter and Tom Krauss, respectively. Freiburg replaced Lucas Holer, Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, Noah Weisshaupt, Kevin Schade and Kiliann Sildillia with Michael Gregoritsch, Woo-yeong Jeong, Vincenzo Grifo, Ritsu Doan and Lukas Kubler.

There were bookings for Sebastian Polter, Tom Krauss and Maya Yoshida from Schalke. For Freiburg, Matthias Ginter and Christian Gunter saw yellow.

Schalke will next travel to Werder Bremen, while Freiburg will face FC Köln at home.
