Schalke 2-3 Augsburg: Fuggerstädter leave the Veltins-Arena with 3 points

Augsburg strolled past Schalke with a 3-2 win on Sunday at the Veltins-Arena. Schalke were looking forward to playing again after losing their last match 1-0 to Borussia Dortmund. Augsburg were hoping to continue their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen. Schalke and Augsburg are 15th, (6 points) and 10th, (12 points), in the table respectively, after 8 matches.

Fuggerstädter started the first half well, when Ermedin Demirovic gave them the lead, at 9 minutes. The momentum was again with Augsburg, who then scored again courtesy of a 2nd effort from Ermedin Demirovic on the 21 minute mark to establish a 2-0 result. However, The Royal Blues pull-back following a Simon Terodde goal, at 33 minutes, finishing the first half 2-1.

Schalke took the initiative in the second half, when Tom Krauss found the net, 63 minutes in. Augsburg in turn, then responded, 77 minutes in, grabbing the lead with an effort from Andre Hahn. The match ended with a 3-2 victory for Augsburg.

Substitutions for Schalke included Rodrigo Zalazar Martinez, Leo Greiml, Mehmet-Can Aydin, Kenan Karaman and Tobias Mohr for Marius Bulter, Sepp Van den Berg, Henning Matriciani, Dominick Drexler and Thomas Ouwejan, respectively. Augsburg brought on Fredrik Jensen and Mads Pedersen for Florian Niederlechner and Ermedin Demirovic.

The referee booked Simon Terodde and Marius Bulter from Schalke. Augsburg had the worst of it though, with Maximilian Bauer, Mergim Berisha, Florian Niederlechner, Ermedin Demirovic and Robert Gumny seeing yellow, and Mergim Berisha (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Schalke will next travel to Bayer Leverkusen, while Augsburg will face Wolfsburg at home.
