Freiburg were defeated at home by Bayern Munich at Europa-Park-Stadion on Saturday. Freiburg wanted to improve their league standing after a scoreless draw against Greuther Fürth in their previous match. Bayern were able to continue their winning streak after a 4-0 win against Union Berlin in their last match. At the moment, Freiburg and Bayern sit 5th, (45 points) and 1st, (66 points), spots respectively, after 28 matches.

Following a goalless first half, Bayern continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Leon Goretzka giving The Reds the lead at the 58 minute mark. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Nils Petersen managed to equalize and take the sides off at the 63 minute mark at 1-1. However, each side looked hungry to win and Bayern then found the back of the net, 73 minutes in thanks to Serge Gnabry, taking the score to 2-1. The Reds looked to have the game under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from Kingsley Coman, 82 minutes in to establish a 3-1. However they weren’t finished yet and Marcel Sabitzer made it 4-1 just before the final whistle with a final score of 4-1.

For Freiburg, Nils Petersen, Hugo Siquet, Noah Weisshaupt, Woo-yeong Jeong and Janik Haberer, came on for Roland Sallai, Jonathan Schmid, Lucas Holer, Manuel Gulde and Maximilian Eggestein. Bayern brought on Corentin Tolisso, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Marcel Sabitzer and Niklas Sule, to replace Robert Lewandowski, Leon Goretzka, Benjamin Pavard, Kingsley Coman and Corentin Tolisso.

There were bookings for Christian Gunter from Freiburg, and Dayot Upamecano, for Bayern.

Freiburg will next travel to Eintracht Frankfurt, while Bayern will face Augsburg at home.
