Freiburg 3 – Gladbach 3: Breisgau Brazilians held at Europa-Park-Stadion by The Colts

Freiburg were held to 3-3 draw by Gladbach down on Saturday at Europa-Park-Stadion. Freiburg were looking to continue their run after winning their previous two games against Bochum at home and Eintracht Frankfurt away, by 3-0 and 2-1 respectively. Gladbach were beaten 3-1 in the previous match against FC Köln. As it stands, Freiburg and Gladbach currently occupy 5th and 11th spots in the league, with 52 points and 38 points respectively after 31 matches.
It was an impressive opening from Gladbach, with an early penalty goal from Ramy Bensebaini in the 3rd minute. Gladbach then scored once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Breel Embolo in the 13th minute to see out the first half 0-2.
Freiburg staged a comeback in the second half, thanks to an early penalty goal from Vincenzo Grifo in the 49th minute. The momentum was now with Freiburg, who then scored again through a goal from Christian Gunter, 61 minutes in to establish a 2-2. The momentum was now with Breisgau Brazilians, who then scored again through a goal from Philipp Lienhart, 80 minutes in to establish a 3-2. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Lars Stindl equalised for The Colts just before the final whistle. The game ended wih a 3-3 draw.
For Freiburg, Lucas Holer, Noah Weisshaupt, Jonathan Schmid, Keven Schlotterbeck and Janik Haberer, came on for Ermedin Demirovic, Woo-yeong Jeong, Noah Weisshaupt, Lukas Kubler and Roland Sallai. Gladbach brought on Joe Scally, Conor Noss, Lars Stindl and Patrick Herrmann, to replace Stefan Lainer, Florian Neuhaus, Alassane Plea and Louis Beyer.
There were bookings for Maximilian Eggestein from Freiburg, and Alassane Plea, Kouadio Kone, Lars Stindl and Ramy Bensebaini, for Gladbach.
Freiburg will next travel to Hoffenheim, while Gladbach will face RB Leipzig at home.
