Leipzig 3-2 Hertha: Hosts hold on for a win at the Red Bull Arena

Leipzig enjoyed a home victory against Hertha at Red Bull Arena on Saturday. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were each keen to pick up points. Leipzig were aiming to improve their league standing following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Mainz in their previous game. Hertha had secured a point against SC Freiburg in their previous match. Leipzig and Hertha are 9th, (15 points) and 15th, (8 points), in the league respectively, after 10 matches.

Leipzig found the net first, when Emil Forsberg gave them the lead, 25 minutes in. The Red Bulls looked to have the match under control when they scored again and increased their lead, thanks to a goal from David Raum in the 30th minute to establish a 2-0. Leipzig then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Willi Orban just before half-time, concluding the first half 3-0.

The Old Lady took the lead in the second half, thanks to a goal from Dodi Lukebakio, 62 minutes in. Hertha then scored once more and pull-back thanks to a goal from Stevan Jovetic, 64 minutes in to make it 3-2.

Substitutions for Leipzig included Marcel Halstenberg, Kevin Kampl, Benjamin Henrichs, Yussuf Poulsen and Hugo Novoa for David Raum, Amadou Haidara, Mohamed Simakan, Emil Forsberg and Andre Silva, respectively. Hertha brought on Maximilian Mittelstadt, Wilfried Kanga, Chidera Ejuke and Davie Selke, to replace Marvin Plattenhardt, Ivan Sunjic, Marco Richter and Suat Serdar.

There were bookings for Amadou Haidara and Kevin Kampl from Leipzig, and Marc Kempf, Marvin Plattenhardt and Agustin Rogel, for Hertha.

Leipzig will next play Augsburg away, with Hertha facing Schalke at home.
