Leipzig 3 – Cologne 1: Points secure for The Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena

RB Leipzig’s 3-1 win over FC Köln on Friday, was hard fought at Red Bull Arena. Leipzig were looking to get back their winning ways, following a previous defeat to Bayern Munich. Cologne, on the other hand, were able to continue their winning streak after a 1-0 win against SC Freiburg in their last match. As things stand, Leipzig and Cologne currently occupy 4th and 7th spots in the league, with 34 points and 32 points respectively after 22 matches.

Leipzig started the game well, with Christopher Nkunku finding the net after 25 minutes and seeing the first half out 1-0.

The Red Bulls started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, thanks to a goal from Dani Olmo in the 54th minute. The momentum was now with Leipzig, who then scored again through a goal from Angelino, 57 minutes in to establish a 3-0. Cologne hit back though thanks to a goal from Tim Lemperle just before the final whistle. When the final wisthle blew, the result was 3-1 to Leipzig.

For Leipzig, Yussuf Poulsen, Emil Forsberg, Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Simakan and Nordi Mukiele, came on for Andre Silva, Dani Olmo, Konrad Laimer, Lukas Klostermann and Angelino. Cologne replaced Mark Uth, Dejan Ljubicic, Kingsley Schindler, Tomas Ostrak and Tim Lemperle with Ondrej Duda, Florian Kainz, Jan Thielmann, Ellyes Skhiri and Sebastian Andersson.

There were bookings for Josko Gvardiol from Leipzig. For Cologne, Jan Thielmann and Timo Hubers saw yellow.

Leipzig will next travel to Hertha, while Cologne will face Eintracht Frankfurt at home.
