Mainz 1-1 Leipzig: Points shared as Leipzig battle back

On Saturday, Mainz and Leipzig played out a 1-1 draw at the OPEL Arena. Mainz were hoping to get something from this game after losing 2-1 to SC Freiburg in their last match. Leipzig, meanwhile, were looking to extend their winning run after a 4-0 victory against Bochum. both teams are now on 12 points and occupy 12th and 10th places respectively after 9 matches.

Mainz started strongly in the first half, when Marcus Ingvartsen found the net just before half-time

Leipzig took the initiative in the second half, when Christopher Nkunku found the net, at 80 minutes, seing the match finish 1-1.

Substitutions for Mainz included Danny Da Costa, Leandro Martins, Delano Burgzorg, Stefan Bell and Angelo Fulgini for Silvan Widmer, Lee Jae Sung, Marcus Ingvartsen, Edimilson Fernandes and Anton Stach, respectively. Leipzig brought on Kevin Kampl, Andre Silva and Yussuf Poulsen, to replace Xaver Schlager, Dominik Szoboszlai and Emil Forsberg.

There were bookings for Alexander Hack from Mainz. For Leipzig, Emil Forsberg saw yellow.

Mainz will play their next fixture away against Werder Bremen, while Leipzig will face Hertha at home.
